Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation
History of Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation
Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (UBI) has been around longer than antibiotics; going back to over 80 years ago (also known as BioPhotonic Therapy). Even in its infancy, it was often used as a treatment for difficult infections that were thought to be untreatable, like tuberculosis of the skin, septicemia, and other bacterial infections.
However, despite its remarkable success and minimal side-effects, antibiotics and vaccines started to make strong headway in the 1950s, ultimately pushing UBI to the side—at least in the United States. Russia and Germany, on the other hand, continued to study and show the clinical efficacy of UBI.
Thankfully, UBI is making a resounding comeback in the US, especially now that antibiotic resistance and other chronic illness is on the rise.
What Does Science Say About Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation?
There are over 200 medical studies showing the efficacy and safety of UBI. In one literature review citing 90 medical references, Harvard Professor Dr. Michael Hamblin, advocates bringing back “UBI as an alternative approach to current methods to treat infections, as an immune-modulating therapy and as a method for normalizing blood parameters….”
The American Cancer Society has even jumped on board, saying “Clinical trials look promising for the treatment of immune system diseases such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, rejection of transplanted organs and graft versus host disease.”
What Conditions Can Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation Help With?
The UBI has a 60-80% efficacy rate for treating many viral and bacterial infections, autoimmune diseases, allergies, inflammatory conditions, circulatory conditions, and respiratory diseases. UBI can also be helpful as adjunctive cancer therapy, for chronic fatigue, and much more.
Below are some of the 60 different conditions/diseases that UBI has been shown to be effective in treating:
Viral Infections:
Bacterial Infections:
-Septicemia (*Staph, strep, pneumococcus)
Autoimmune Diseases:
Respiratory Diseases:
Inflammatory Conditions:
Circulatory Conditions:
-Peripheral Vascular Disease
-Deep Vein Thrombosis
How Does Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation Work?
The UBI irradiates the blood with ultraviolet (UV) light (specifically UVA & UVC wavelengths), which has broad-acting effects, like increasing red and white blood cells, hemoglobin, blood alkalinity, phagocytosis capability, the bactericidal capacity of the blood, immune system modulation, and much more.
It is thought that the UV light “dismantles the exact virus or bacteria that you have in your blood…, acting like an individually tailored vaccine.” When weakened or dead pathogens re-enter into the bloodstream, B-cells are stimulated to mount a systemic immune response to those particular pathogens.
Is UBI Safe & What Are the Side-Effects?
Over 80+ years of history, there has never been a major medical complication or death reported from using UBI. The side-effects are very minimal as well (see below).
- Most common
- Skin flushing (likely caused by increased blood flow), sleepiness
- Herxheimer Response or Flu-like symptoms (from excessive pathogen die-off)
- Shivering, hypotension, nasal bleeding, hypoglycemia, bronchospasm, urticaria.
How Is UBI Performed?
40-60cc (about 1/4 cup) of blood is withdrawn from the patient using an IV catheter and mixed with a small amount of heparin to prevent clotting. The blood is then combined with approximately 150mL of saline, then gravity-fed past the UV light and back into the patient. The procedure typically takes about 30-60 minutes.
How Many Treatments Do I Need?
The number of UBI treatments depends on a variety of factors, namely the severity of the condition/disease, the status of the patient’s immune system, and how long the patient has been ill. The initial recommendation may include one of the following:
- Acute infections, flu, or allergies: 3-4 treatments
- Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, shingles, asthma: 5-6 treatments
- Cancer, MS, autoimmune diseases, hepatitis C: 8-10 treatments
- Preventative therapy: treatment every 2-3 months
How Much Does it Cost?
- 1 treatment: $225
- 5 treatments: $1012.50 (10% savings)
- 10 treatments: $1912.50 (15% savings)

“Several years back I developed an autoimmune disease that attacked my nerves and arteries. This resulted in sharp pains throughout my body as it moved through my muscles and joints. After conventional therapy and a list of different drugs for years, I still could not control the pain. I now have completed ten UBI treatments and have had a considerable reduction in pain. I have been able to reduce my drugs to the minimum amount to prevent a relapse. I have more energy now and thank GOD for the availability of this treatment.”
“Although I was altering my diet I also decided to try BPT [UBI] treatments. After three treatments and two months time I went from a cholesterol level of 233 down to 179. My triglycerides went from 415 to 111 with no medications.”
“I had extreme allergies to smoke and a number of other things. If I was near any smoke or someone who smoked, I could not breathe and lost my voice for several hours. Chocolate gave me migraine headaches, caffeine and alcohol sent my nerves sky high. I was told nothing could be done and to ‘learn to live with it.’. After only three Ultrasound Blood Irradiation treatments, my allergies were cured! Someone was within five feet of me smoking and I didn’t have an attack. I ate chocolate and had some wine and nothing happened! I had no reaction to them. It is wonderful to not have to wonder when my allergies are going to kick in or decide to disrupt my life.”
“I was involved with plastics and inks in the place that I worked. After some time, I developed a rash that would just not go away. Over the weekend it would subside a bit but then come right back as soon as I started to work. Doctors gave me a number of drugs and creams to use, but nothing helped. I quit work but unfortunately the rash on my face and neck continued. After trying everything I could for 5 YEARS I came in for a UBI treatment and in 1 treatment the rash disappeared. It was a miracle! I have been rash free for 6 months now.”
“I have had breast cancer for a few years. I started out with conventional treatment then a right mastectomy followed by chemo. I decided that I would no longer be willing to take any more chemo and I wanted to use alternative treatments. I noticed that my symptoms were worsening. I went in for a check-up and the cancer is now in my jaw, my brain, my lung, and my lymph nodes… I start BPT [UBI] treatments on Feb 12th along with a supplement. Usually my cancer markers only fluctuate by 5-10 points per month but in 2 weeks of treatments my markers dropped 69 points! I actually said to the staff “I think you are killing my cancer too fast!” I am very pleased with my progress.”
