Patients who are concerned about the appearance of sun damage or dark spots on their skin could be excellent candidates for intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy at Cameron Wellness Center and Spa. An IPL photofacial is a skin rejuvenation treatment for hyperpigmentation problems on the neck and face. Our team uses intense pulses of light to start the natural regeneration process and increase collagen production. In time, you should begin to see a healthier appearance, an improved tone, and fewer areas of hyperpigmentation. Even though a photofacial is not an invasive treatment option, it can be very effective and can produce impressive outcomes for your complexion. Our Salt Lake City, UT team utilizes the Harmony XL PRO laser from Alma to complete IPL treatments and can offer you a skin analysis to determine if this option can help you reach your skin goals.

  • Stimulating collagen and elastin production

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR AN IPL PHOTOFACIAL?

Ideal candidates for IPL are in generally good health and have mild to moderate sun damage, dark spots, or hyperpigmentation on their face or neck. Treatment is not recommended for patients with very dark skin tones as it could cause further pigmentation issues. If you have any active skin conditions, such as an infection, you should wait to treat them before considering IPL therapy. Cameron Wellness Center and Spa will perform a comprehensive evaluation to ensure this treatment is right for you and your unique needs at this time. We can also let you know what to expect during and after IPL — so there are no surprises.

IPL FAQ

How much does IPL cost?
Your complexion issues are unique so your cost for a photofacial will vary based on your individual concerns. Cameron Wellness Center and Spa may offer specials on treatments, like IPL therapy, at times, and we take several types of convenient payment options. During your initial consultation, we can estimate your treatment pricing and discuss how many sessions are needed to optimize your results.

How quick are the results from IPL?
Visible improvements can be seen following your Harmony XL PRO IPL session, but optimal results can be seen a month after your last treatment. It’s normal for you to see different responses following each session. You should see a fading of redness, blotchiness, age spots, and sun spots over time.

What are the possible side effects of IPL?
Most patients experience minor side effects, such as temporary redness, swelling, bruising, blisters, or crusting. This should subside in a few days. Your skin will be photosensitive, and you should keep in mind that excessive sun exposure can negatively affect the results of the procedure. We also recommend using sunscreen to protect your skin and help prevent skin problems, like sun spots and redness.

Do I need to prep for IPL?
To prepare for IPL therapy, Salt Lake City, UT patients are asked to avoid self-tanners and sun exposure for a minimum of 2 – 4 weeks before their procedure. You might need to discontinue the use of certain medications a few days prior to your procedure and will likely need to avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood thinners one week before the treatment to decrease your risk of bruising. You must also protect the treated areas with sunscreen between treatments.

Why should I get multiple IPL sessions?
Multiple IPL treatments are better to deliver gradual improvements to the appearance of your skin. Every treatment will help to fade areas of hyperpigmentation and sun spots. A series of treatments also allow for longer-lasting aesthetic improvements.
